Virgin of Kazan

Virgin of Kazan (In 1579 the Virgin appeared to a girl from Kazan and told her where to find the icon. In 1612 the icon saved Moscow from the Polish Siege. In 1710 Peter the Great brought the icon to St. Petersburg where it remained and was eventually brought to the Kazan Cathedral in 1811). Russian icon, (Mstera), 18th century, 17¼ x 14¾ ins., (44 x 37½ cm).
